The Garatau Mine is close to the R37 main road from Lydenburg to Polokwane next to Anglo American Platinum’s Modikwa Mine and Impala Platinum’s Marula Mine. The road connecting the project area with the R37 was recently upgraded and tarred.

The environmental authorisation licence for the Garatau Mine was granted by the Department of Environmental Affairs on 04 December 2015.

An application for water use licence has been made to the Department of Water and Sanitation. The record of decision is pending.

The Garatau Mine is to receive power (80MVA) for the mine operation from ESKOM, the national power utility. ESKOM is busy with environmental authorisations for the Garatau grid power project. Eskom should be able to deliver grid power to the Garatau project by fourth quarter of 2018. The grid power from ESKOM will not affect the start-up of the project. Construction power will be supplied by diesel generators with a capacity of 5MVA which would be more than sufficient.
